Culinary Escape to Ballymaloe House

The Brief

We at 528 Creative collaborated with Ballymaloe House to create a cinematic food and hospitality video called Culinary Escape to Ballymaloe House. The aim was to capture two journeys unfolding simultaneously: the journey of the guests, from check-in to dinner, and the journey of the food, from local sourcing to being served at the table.

We met local lobster and crab fishermen in Ballycotton, filmed JP Ryall gathering vegetables in the gardens, and followed the chefs preparing each dish with fresh, seasonal ingredients. At the same time, we documented the guest experience - arriving at Ballymaloe, enjoying the grounds, and being welcomed with a tray of fresh produce. The narrative reached its highlight during the dinner service, where we cut between guests enjoying their starter and the chefs preparing the main course in real time. This visually reinforced Ballymaloe’s ethos of seasonality, local sourcing, and food prepared fresh on-site.

The video was crafted with perfectly chosen music (delicate and gentle) that reflected the Ballymaloe approach to cooking and hospitality. With no voiceover or on-screen text, the storytelling relied purely on visuals and atmosphere, ending with a beautiful cocktail served outside the house in its garden surroundings.

FILMING EQUIPMENT

  • Sony FX6 Camera – We captured cinematic quality visuals in both kitchen and guest settings, handling varied lighting conditions.
  • Sony G-Master Lenses (14mm, 24mm, 35mm, 70-200mm) – Allowed us to film everything from sweeping garden shots to intimate close-ups of food preparation and dining.
  • DJI Inspire 2 Drone – We delivered breathtaking aerial perspectives of Ballymaloe House, the surrounding countryside, and coastal fishing scenes.
  • DJI RS4 Pro Gimbal – This ensured smooth transitions between guest and kitchen storytelling, vital for the split-sequence dinner shots.
  • Easy-Rig – We opted for handheld filming during long sequences, helping us capture natural, authentic movements without fatigue.

PROCESS

  1. Pre-production – We designed a narrative that intertwined guest experience and food sourcing, building a story of connection between land, sea, and table.
  2. Local sourcing –  We were able to film lobster and crab fishermen at the coast and JP gathering seasonal vegetables in Ballymaloe’s gardens.
  3. Guest journey – We captured arrival, warm welcomes, exploring the estate, and relaxing moments leading up to dinner.
  4. Culinary storytelling – We filmed chefs preparing dishes in real time, cutting back and forth with guests enjoying each course.
  5. Cinematic style – We used carefully selected music and no narration, allowing visuals, detail, and atmosphere to communicate Ballymaloe’s ethos.
  6. Post-production – We crafted a polished hospitality film balancing food cinematography with lifestyle storytelling.

RESULTS

  • A high-impact hospitality film highlighting Ballymaloe House as a world-class destination for food lovers.
  • Cinematic food storytelling that reinforced Ballymaloe’s values of local sourcing, seasonality, and attention to detail.
  • Engaging marketing content for website, social media, and paid advertising, appealing to both Irish and international visitors.
  • A versatile brand asset showing the harmony between guest experience and culinary excellence at Ballymaloe House.
