Shannon Ferries

The Brief

We at 528 Creative, in collaboration with Hopkins Communications, were commissioned to create a suite of tourism and lifestyle content for Shannon Ferries. The goal was to showcase not just the ferry service itself, but the unique experiences and hidden gems available on both sides of the Shannon Estuary. The campaign needed to highlight the ferry as a gateway to adventure, while providing versatile content for social media, paid ads, and broader marketing use.

We brought on board Conor, Mel, and their son Cuan for the project. Their natural chemistry and energy made the footage authentic, warm, and full of personality. Because Cuan knew who we were, he was totally comfortable on camera, which added to the natural flow of the shoot.

FILMING EQUIPMENT

  • Sony FX6 Cameras - Used for high-quality cinematic video of both the ferry and attractions.
  • Sony G-Master Lenses (14mm, 24mm, 35mm, 70-200mm, 50mm) - Covered wide landscapes, mid-range lifestyle shots, and intimate close-ups.
  • DJI Inspire 2 Drone - Captured aerial sequences of the ferry crossing and sweeping views of the estuary.
  • Aputure LS C120d II with Light Dome & Nanlite Tubes - Used for controlled interior and detail shots where required.
  • DJI RS4 Pro Gimbal & Easy-Rig - Ensured smooth movement shots following the family and exploring destinations.

PROCESS

  1. Recce Day - We began with a full recce in Clare to scout attractions, plan routes, and identify the best filming opportunities.
  2. Filming - We spent two full days shooting in Clare and Kerry during a perfect weather window. This included aerial footage of the ferry arriving and departing, as well as location filming to show exactly where the ferry can bring you on either side of the estuary.
  3. Storytelling Approach - We kept the tone light and experiential, filming Conor, Mel, and Cuan enjoying the journey and the destinations. Their presence added authenticity and relatability, showing real people exploring and having fun.
  4. Flexibility - We kept production relaxed and natural, letting the day flow and capturing spontaneous, unscripted moments alongside planned hero shots.
  5. Post-Production - We delivered multiple edits: one main video for each side of the ferry route, and shorter cut-down versions for social media and paid campaigns. Custom branded elements were incorporated, including placenames, map pins, and Wild Atlantic Way logos.

RESULTS

  • Produced two hero videos, one for each side of the Shannon Ferry route.
  • Delivered a series of cut-down edits optimised for social and paid ads.
  • Captured vibrant lifestyle content with real people to make the campaign authentic and relatable.
  • Delivered versatile content that promotes Shannon Ferries as both a practical service and an experience-driven gateway to exploring Clare and Kerry.
