Tailoring Content for Social Media

At 528 Creative, the majority of our work is created for social media. Instagram Reels, TikTok clips, and Facebook stories make up about 90% of what we deliver, with website content, TV ads, videos about us, and photography of all kinds filling out the rest. That means we’re constantly thinking about how to shoot and edit content so that it works best for each platform.

CONTEXT

Shooting for Portrait and Landscape

Most social platforms are designed for vertical content. Portrait video fills the screen, feels immersive, and is naturally favoured by the algorithm. That’s why we usually frame everything specifically for social media.

That said, many clients also want content for websites, YouTube, or digital campaigns, which still require landscape. In those cases, we sometimes shoot landscapes and crop down to vertical in post. It’s not always ideal, but it does give flexibility, sometimes even allowing us to create two different clips from a single wide shot by cropping different parts of the frame.

Keeping an Eye on Safe Areas

If you’ve ever watched a Reel or Story where text is hidden under Instagram’s buttons, you’ll know how frustrating it looks. Every platform has “safe areas” where likes, comments, and share icons sit on top of your video. When we create content for social campaigns, we always make sure important text, captions, or graphics are positioned away from those areas. It’s one of those small details that can make the difference between professional content and content that looks thrown together.

From Planning to Delivery

When we’re working on a shoot, the process usually looks like this:

  1. Brief & Planning – we figure out what’s needed: Reels, Stories, website banners, or paid ads.
  2. Framing & Setup – cameras and lights are set with the final platform in mind, whether that’s portrait or landscape.
  3. On-Set Direction – we keep things relaxed, especially for people who haven’t been on camra before. A fun set makes for much happier faces on screen.
  4. Editing & Delivery – content is exported in all the formats you’ll need: vertical for social, widescreen for websites, shorter cut-downs for campaigns. We also host everything on the cloud so you’ll never lose a file.

Why This Matters

Social media is where most brands are meeting their audience first. A campaign might live on Instagram or TikTok, but often clients want the same shoot to cover website needs, YouTube ads, or in-store screens. By planning for all of that in advance, we help clients get more value from each project while keeping everything consistent across platforms.

That’s why so many of our clients call us their go-to social media content partner. We’re not just handing over videos; we’re building campaigns that feel seamless across every platform. We’ve worked with some brands and companies since we started, so that’s nearly 7 years.

A Creative Partner for Social Content

Over the past seven years we’ve worked with hotels, drinks brands, startups, and marketing agencies, and so much more, across Cork, Dublin, Kerry, Limerick, Galway, Sligo, Mayo, and basically everywhere in Ireland, as well as some trips to the UK. What they all need is content that works, content that doesn’t just look good, but that’s designed to perform on social media, and messaging that works.

That’s why we put so much thought into format, safe areas, and delivery. It’s not just about ticking boxes; it’s about making sure the content actually lands the way it should, whether someone’s watching it on Instagram, TikTok, or your company website.
